Sterlcraft
I host a small, slow-paced “me and the boys” sorta Minecraft server for friends and friends of friends. But, if you came here from some random corner of the Internet: you’re welcome too!
Instead of fancy stuff like Factions and loot crates, Sterlcraft provides a decently Vanilla, “old-school” experience, having not much more than some simple teleportation commands and grief rollback. Help with said commands as well as some server-specific tips can be found by typing /help
in-game, and/or by visiting the server features page.
If you’d like to join, the address is mc.ssterling.net, version 1.21 or later. Also, make sure to familiar yourself with the rules before playing. (I mean, at least read the bold parts.)
Bedrock Edition players can connect using the Geyser proxy at the address listed above at the default port 19132. If you also play on Java Edition, you can link your accounts and synchronise your inventory, homes, experience and so forth. Console players: see the FAQ.
Changes to the server and related infrastructure can be found on the Sterlcraft feed, and occasionally on my Ko-fi page.

Rules
Most of these are common sense, but here nonetheless just to be safe.
General rules
- Don’t invite your Uncle Bob’s friend’s dog’s mom’s owner’s ex-wife Jane onto the server. In other words, make sure you can vet the people you invite so that you’re not letting griefers and trollsters make use of the server.
- Be mindful of which client-side mods you use. Cosmetic enhancements or helping hands such as OptiFine, Ears or even Litematica are just fine, but anything that gives you an unfair advantage (e.g. X-ray mods or Baritone) is strictly prohibited. Being caught using cheats will result in immediate corrective action.
- Make your builds somewhat structurally realistic. I won’t really enforce this rule per se, but I do reserve the right to, say, add regularly spaced abutments to your 480m-long hovering cobblestone bridge.
Conduct
- Respect fellow players. Lighthearted jokes and moderate profanity are par for the course on this server. However, targeting someone and/or being purposefully offensive is quite obviously looked down upon. Excessive or any misconduct may result in corrective action.
- Don’t grief. By default, world protection is disabled and PVP enabled. However, intentionally damaging a player’s build, killing their pets, &c. will result in immediate corrective action. (The exception is if both parties agree to wage a “war” for whatever reason.)
- Don’t spam. This shouldn’t really need any explanation.
Server preservation
- Don’t cause lag. All high-frequency Redstone clocks or Hopper builds must have an off-switch or other means of disabling. Anything of the sort found running unattended on the server may be removed or disabled without warning. Additionally, players who create builds with the intent to lag and/or crash the server will be banned.
- Keep big mob grinders away from multi-player settlements. I won’t get into the technical details here, but keep your mob grinders at least twelve chunks from Spawn or any towns so that players who wish to interact with mobs normally can do so.

Frequently asked questions
- What plugins or special features are enabled on Sterlcraft?
-
Type
/help
in-game. For a full list of easter eggs and such, refer to the features page. - What’s the difference between Player and Member roles?
When a new player joins Sterlcraft, they’re assigned the
Player
role. After showing their trustworthiness, players are assigned theMember
role, which allows them to do some previously restricted things, including but not limited to placing lava and lighting fire. For more info, check out the features page.- How do I connect to Sterlcraft from my Switch/Xbox/PlayStation?
Run Phantom on a computer, router or other device on the same network as your console, using the Bedrock connection information listed above. In short, Phantom tricks your console into thinking Sterlcraft is a LAN game, since direct server addresses are unsupported.
Nintendo Switch users will have to use an alternate hack such as BedrockConnect in order to connect. For the more technologically advanced among you, if you plan to only play at home, you can cut some lag by adding a CNAME record to your router’s DNS cache directing a Mojang partner server’s address to mc.ssterling.net.
- Why are some players’ parrots just randomly named “Grey Parrot 14” and “Teal”?
The Sterlcraft server resource pack includes a bunch of unique textures for parrots (credit: Pesky Parrots). For Java Edition players who use OptiFine (or, for Quilt/Fabric users, Entity Texture Features and Entity Model Features), as well as all Bedrock players, these textures are displayed when a parrot is given a certain name using a Name Tag; for others, it just shows as a parrot named something like “Skeletal Parrot”.
